Evening Forecast: Winter Weather Advisory



The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for heavy snow... which is in effect from 4 am to 10 PM CDT Thursday.

* Rain will change to snow Thursday morning and begin to accumulate. 

* Snowfall rates could be an inch per hour. 

* Total snow amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected. 

* Winds will increase Thursday afternoon and cause blowing and drifting snow. Gusts around 30 mph are expected. 

* Plan on hazardous travel... especially during commute times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... 

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

This Winter Weather Advisory is only for Anoka County in the Twin Cities Metro and Central Minnesota

Winter Weather Advisory for Anoka County from 4 AM to 10 PM Thursday

    Rain, mainly after 3am. Low around 35. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Thursday
    Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 32 by 5pm. South southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

    A 30 percent chance of snow before 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 16. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
