Evening Forecast: Winter Weather Advisory



The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for heavy snow... which is in effect from 4 am to 10 PM CDT Thursday.

* Rain will change to snow Thursday morning and begin to accumulate. 

* Snowfall rates could be an inch per hour. 

* Total snow amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected. 

* Winds will increase Thursday afternoon and cause blowing and drifting snow. Gusts around 30 mph are expected. 

* Plan on hazardous travel... especially during commute times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... 

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

This Winter Weather Advisory is only for Anoka County in the Twin Cities Metro and Central Minnesota

Forecast for the Twin Cities North Metro


Winter Weather Advisory for Anoka County from 4 AM to 10 PM Thursday

  • Tonight
    Rain, mainly after 3am. Low around 35. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Thursday
    Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 32 by 5pm. South southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Thursday Night
    A 30 percent chance of snow before 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 16. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
  • Friday
    Sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Friday Night
    Partly cloudy, with a low around 17. North northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Saturday
    Sunny, with a high near 43. Light and variable wind becoming south southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
  • Saturday Night
    Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. South southeast wind around 15 mph.
  • Sunday
    Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. South wind 10 to 15 mph.
  • Sunday Night
    A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Monday
    Rain and snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Monday Night
    Rain and snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Tuesday
    Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph.
  • Tuesday Night
    A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

    A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Northeast wind around 10 mph.

Forecast

I was going to present you A timeline of simulated future radar from the NAM forecast model which is one of many forecast models that meteorologists use to produce their forecast. Unfortunately blogger is being Rube and was giving me problems, so here's your local forecast for the Twin Cities North Metro.



We'll start out the day tomorrow as rain, the rain will change over the snow by afternoon and should end by tomorrow evening for Twin Cities metro and later on in the evening for southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, we have a couple more systems coming in next week, One on Monday and one on Thursday. Evening Forecast




The image above is look at the storm system as of Thursday morning which will be mostly rain over southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro and should end as snow by evening with accumulations of a inch or less with higher amounts in northern Wisconsin.

The image above is from NOAA's WPC short term forecast map as of 7 AM Thursday morning what looks like mostly rain for southern Minnesota and snow will be in northern and western Minnesota pushing into southeast Minnesota by the evening hours, Right now it will stay rain or mix for the Twin Cities Metro with a change over too snow by Thursday evening as the system moves out, new models data will be coming in soon, we'll see if the trend continues.
