It may be December but these weather conditions make it feel more like January. Hang on folks this winter could be an interesting ride. For the record and only because I have been asked these questions a couple of times, No I did not order this cold weather and no I can't flip a switch to make it warm up... LOL.
A Winds Chill Advisory remains in effect until noon today for southern Minnesota, east central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area and northwestern Wisconsin. A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect until noon today for west central and central Minnesota.
An Arctic Air Mass over the region combined with brisk westerly winds will produce dangerously cold wind chill readings through late this morning. The coldest readings overnight will be found over west central and central Minnesota where wind chills will range between 35 and 45 below zero. For rest of Minnesota and west central Wisconsin wind chills tonight will fall between 25 and 30 below zero. These dangerously cold wind chill values will slowly improve later this morning.
A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will continue to generate low wind chills. This will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors make sure you wear a hat and gloves. A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low windchill values. This will result in frostbite lead to hypothermia or death if precautions or not taken.
If you plan on doing any Christmas shopping this weekend, if you haven't finished yet, I would wait until Sunday when it will be slightly warmer. But with that being said there's also chance of snow on Sunday, so you have to figure out what's the lesser of the two evils. So if you do plan on going out today to run errands are do some shopping make sure you're dressed appropriately. Stay warm folks it should get better by late next week, I'm seeing a high of 20 on Thursday on my local forecast. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
